William Thomson claims fourth national billiards title
WILLIAM Thomson (pictured) has won the English Under-16 Billiards Championship for the fourth successive year.
The 13-year-old England international beat his Chandlers Ford clubmate Asten Sahota 262-235 in the final at The Maltings Q Club in King’s Lynn, Norfolk.
In his tournament report, Nathan Mann, general secretary of the English Amateur Billiards Association, said the match was played “with bravery and pace, with both players attacking and scoring heavily”.
Asten recorded breaks of 35, 28, 26 and 23 while William had efforts of 30, 21 and 20.
In the last-four, Asten knocked out Under-19 champion William Chambers while William beat Tristan Owens.
Both Cuestars Under-21 Gold Tour players lost in the last-four of the Under-19 Championship although William pocketed the £10 high-break prize for a 45 in that event.
Former Cuestars member Casey Turner lost in the final of the older age group.
