Callender joins Bronze title race

BACK-to-back snooker tournament wins has thrust Vincent Callender well and truly into the three-horse race for the Cuestars Under-21 Bronze Tour title.

The 13-year-old from Frimley Green, Surrey, followed up his success in Swindon last month with an awesome display in the final of the eighth leg at The Crucible Sports & Social Club, Newbury.

Callender dominated the first frame against Oliver Callow with the day’s highest break of 47 and broke the back of the second with a run of 25.

After his 2-0 victory, Callender, who is based at Jimmy White’s Sports Lounge in Woking, said: “Now I’ve won two in a row, there’s a bit more pressure going into the next one to win three in a row.

“Two weeks ago in Swindon, winning my first one was very nice but winning two in a row is a completely different feeling. I’m over the moon.

“The groups were very hard. I was lucky to win five out of six. I should have lost a couple more.”

And the teenager added: “I’d like to thank my mum (Zara) and my dad (Jim) for taking me to all these Cuestars events. And I’d like to thank Oliver for a great final.”

Callow was appearing in his first Cuestars final. The 13-year-old from Midhurst, West Sussex, made his Bronze debut in Swindon in January, 2025, and is currently seventh in the rankings.

Lewis Harris remains top of the rankings after being knocked out in the quarter-finals by Callender. But his advantage over second-placed Jack Miller, who lost in the semis, is cut to five points with two events left. Callender is four points further back in third place.

It looks like a straight race between Harris, Miller and Callender for the title and the £100 prize.

Jack Allen, the other beaten semi-finalist, is fifth. Elijah King, who beat Callender in the group stages, made the last-eight in only his second event.

Chandlers Ford Snooker Club hosts the Silver and Bronze ninth legs of ten on Sunday, March 29. Gold will be at Waterlooville Sports Bar.
