Every cloud has a ‘Silver’ lining

CADEN Read demonstrated what determination and commitment can achieve during his rollercoaster weekend on the green baize.

Disappointed at missing out by one frame to qualify for the second day in the fifth and final leg of the English Junior Tour in Widnes on Saturday, the 15-year-old arrived home in Chandler’s Ford at midnight.

And the following day, Read dropped only one frame (to Ben Scammell) out of 14 en route to winning the fifth leg of the Cuestars Under-21 Silver Tour at Salisbury Snooker Club.

He beat his clubmate Lennon Savage 2-0 in the final and now trails his best friend by one point at the top of the rankings.

Read, who also won the first leg, said: “I feel amazing. It’s the second time this season that I’ve won in Salisbury.

“I wasn’t really planning to come because I was tired from the travelling. But I looked at the rankings and I was third and I thought I had to come here today and try to win the rankings.”

Scammell made the last-four for the first time since his debut on the Silver Tour in Fareham in March, 2024.

Christopher Woodward lost in the second semi and is one point behind third-placed Navraj Landa.

Chandlers Ford Snooker Club hosts the sixth leg of ten on Sunday, January 25. Be aware that Gold will be at Waterlooville Sports Bar.

(It is unlikely that John Milton was referring to the Cuestars Under-21 Silver Tour when he coined the phrase ‘silver lining’ in his 1634 poetic work, Comus.)
