Greier wins five-day holiday competition
CHANNEL Islander Archie Greier has won a five-day tournament on the mainland.
The 12-year-old from Jersey secured the February Half-Term Cup at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club in style.
Greier, who competes on the Cuestars Under-21 Gold Tour, went into the fifth day level on points with Joe Lim and lost to his title rival in the first frame. But it was the only match he lost that day.
After making a record 519 break in the previous day’s cricket (a game where the batter pots colours and the bowler pots reds), Greier knocked in the week’s highest snooker break of 84.
The cue-sport activities also included billiards on the second day and the champion proved to be a dab hand at the three-ball game, posting runs of 31, 31, 25, 23, 23 and 21 in just 90 minutes play.
New Bronze player Elijah King finished in third place,
Greier, who is coached by former World Seniors champion Aaron Canavan, is sponsored by The Summit Group, Jersey Sport, The CI Group (Conservatory Insulations) and Le Gallais & Luce.
WPBSA coach Tim Dunkley runs junior competitions on every weekday during every school holiday at Chandlers Ford SC.
