Mum’s the word for Kelly’s hero
A PEP talk from his mother spurred Caden Read on to collect his third winner’s trophy of the season on the Cuestars Under-21 Silver Tour.
And perhaps more importantly, the 15-year-old from Chandler’s Ford now leads the rankings.
Read, who admitted he scraped through the round-robin group stage, beat Londoner Dylan Denieffe 2-0 in the final of the seventh leg at Jesters Snooker Club, Swindon
“The group stage was not good at all,” he said. “So I wasn’t expecting to win.
“My attitude around the table was all over the place. After the groups, my mum (Kelly) took me outside and had a word.
“I came back and won it.”
Read has a seven-point advantage over his Chandlers Ford clubmate Lennon Savage with three legs remaining.
Denieffe was appearing in his first Silver final. The 15-year-old, who is based at the Hurricane Room, Kings Cross, is fifth in the rankings.
Home player Jaydon Elliott, who had won two of the previous three tournaments, and second-group winner Ben Taylor-Jenkins went out in the last-four.
