Wyatt completes Cuestars circle in Swindon

HARRY Wyatt’s Cuestars snooker career came “full circle” in Swindon.

Seven years ago, at Jesters Snooker Club, an eight-year-old Wyatt became the youngest ever winner of an Under-21 Bronze Tour leg.

And now, the Ferndown teenager has made it third time lucky on the Gold Tour.

After losing in the previous two finals in Chandlers Ford and Reading, Wyatt claimed his first winner’s trophy on the third tier back at the Wiltshire club where he first tasted success.

The 15-year-old rankings leader pocketed £150 in prize money after beating Noah Gartell 2-1 in the final of the fourth leg.

Wyatt was quick to see the significance of his victory and he explained his return to the winners enclosure.

“It’s gone full circle because I won my first event here,” he said.

“I’ve sorted my head out a bit. I’m not getting so frustrated about silly little mistakes. And realising that there are other things more important than a game of snooker.”

Paying tribute to his 14-year-old opponent from Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, Wyatt added: “Noah played really well. He’s come on a lot over the last year. I’m happy for him. It was a good game. I enjoyed it.”

Gartell, who collected £50 and recorded the day’s highest break of 74, is second in the rankings after reaching his first Gold final. He has qualified for the knockout in all four events since earning promotion from Silver.

Tyler Beer qualified for the knockout for the first time in his rookie season since moving up from Silver. The 13-year-old from Eastleigh lost 2-0 in the semi-finals after beating Will Forster 2-1 in the last-eight.

Channel Islander Archie Greier, 11, defeated Wyatt in the round-robin group stage and reached the last-eight on his Gold debut.

The event was sponsored by Swindon-based Don Rogers Sports.

Salisbury Snooker Club hosts the fifth leg of ten on Sunday, January 4.

(Wyatt’s record has since been beaten by Alex Scotney.)
