Caden claims first Silver Tour ranking success
CADEN Read is top of the Cuestars Under-21 Silver Tour rankings for the first time in his snooker career.
The 15-year-old from Chandler’s Ford, who won the 2024 Silver Championship in Swindon, clinched his first ranking event on the second tier at Salisbury Snooker Club.
Read edged his practice partner and best mate Lennon Savage 2-1 from 1-0 down in the final of the opening leg of the new campaign.
“It was a tough battle,” said the left-hander. “I thought I wasn’t going to win it because he was playing quite well. He was playing well in the whole tournament. I was watching him. He’s practising a lot lately as well.
“I played well in the groups and then I had to play my clubmate Navraj (Landa) in the quarters, clubmate Christopher (Woodward) in the semis and clubmate Lennon in the final.”
Read, who increased his highest break to 65 during the Rotary Summer Cup on home tables at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club five days before the trip to Wiltshire, dropped only two frames out of 14 during the day.
Meanwhile, semi-finalist Dylan Denieffe made a personal best 73 against fellow Londoner Rayan El Qmache in the round-robin group stages
Debutant Jesse Goncalves (Liss) proved he can compete in the second tier. The 11-year-old from Liss, who earned promotion from Bronze after making a 40 in June, increased his highest break to 43 in his group-stage victory over Somerset-based Milo Taylor and qualified for the knockout.
Alex Scotney (Sutton), another player not out of his depth after moving up a level, qualified for the knockout on his first Silver appearance.
The event was sponsored by Salisbury SC (salisburysnookerclub.co.uk).
Chandlers Ford Snooker Club hosts the second leg of ten on Sunday, October 5.
