Zoard claims first winner’s trophy

HERTFORDSHIRE teenager Zoard Toth has won his first regional snooker tournament.

The 16-year-old from Borehamwood was the last man standing from the field of 16 for the third leg of the Cuestars Under-21 Silver Tour at The Crucible Sports & Social Club, Reading.

In his first appearance of the season, he beat first-time Silver finalist Ben Taylor-Jenkins 2-1.

Toth, who is based at Shots Watford, is a regular on the English Junior Tour – the national under-21 circuit – where he is currently ranked 27th.

Taylor-Jenkins, 14, had made group-stage exits in his first two Silver events since being promoted from Bronze at the start of this season.

Rayan El Qmache and Lennon Savage both made last-four exits in third-frame deciders to Taylor-Jenkins and Toth respectively.

It’s tight at the top of the rankings. Caden Read and Navraj Landa are tied in first place on 49 points. Savage is one point adrift in third. And Christopher Woodward is three points further back in fourth.

In fact, only 21 points separate the top-ten in what is shaping up to be the most open title race in years.
