Jack’s the lad in Swindon
AN 11-year-old from Thatcham leads the Cuestars Under-21 Bronze Tour rankings after collecting his second winner’s trophy of the season.
Jack Miller beat Chester Chan 2-0 in a “nerve-racking” final of the fourth leg at Jesters Snooker Club, Swindon.
The youngster, who also won the second event in Chandler’s Ford in October, survived a play-off to progress to the knockout.
“I got lucky to get out of my group because there was a three-way tie,” he said.
Reflecting on the final, he added: “It was pretty nerve-racking.”
And explaining his success during the start of this campaign, Miller said: “I’ve been putting the work in on the table.”
Miller, who is based at The Crucible Sports & Social Club, Newbury, is sponsored by Spice Indian Restaurant Thatcham and Progressive Legal Solutions.
Chan, 11, from Reading, had never been past the quarter-finals before.
James Weston made a dream debut. The ten-year-old from Bewdley, near Kidderminster, opened his Cuestars account with a new high break of 22 in his group-stage victory over former rankings leader Lewis Harris, qualified for the knockout and then added a 31 in his quarter-final defeat by Chan.
Oliver Callow and Jack Allen made their first appearances in a semi-final.
Harris drops to third place in the rankings. Leg-one winner Harry Merwood is second. Chan climbs to fourth.
The event was sponsored by Swindon-based Don Rogers Sports.
