Lilly wins high-scoring day in Newbury

DHARMINDER Singh Lilly out-gunned the big guns during a break-building bonanza in Berkshire.

Six centuries plus 25 other breaks of 50 or more were recorded during the sixth leg of the Cuestars Championship Tour in Newbury.

But it was Lilly who was smiling as he clutched the £250 first prize following a high-scoring day at The Crucible Sports & Social Club.

The 51-year-old from Fareham defeated Bradley Cowdroy 3-0 in the final to clinch his first Championship Tour success since May, 2022.

Labeeb Ahmed took the high-break honours with a 133 clearance against Harry Wyatt in the opening round. William Thomson, 13, put together a 102 in a 2-0 Plate semi-final victory over rankings leader Mark Lloyd.

Oliver Sykes, Billy Castle, Jake Fowler and Lilly also hit three figures.

Cowdroy and Sykes, who pocketed £500 for winning the first leg of the Joe Perry Under-21 Super Series in Newbury the previous day, managed five notable breaks in their last-four encounter.

Cowdroy, who prevailed 3-2, chalked up runs of 90, 70 and 53 while Sykes weighed in with 118 and 63.

Jake Fowler beat Thomson 2-0 in the Plate final.
