Callender collects first winner’s trophy
IT’S something he has been threatening to do for nearly a year.
Vincent Callender collected his first winner’s trophy on the Cuestars Under-21 Bronze Tour in Swindon.
The 13-year-old from Frimley Green, Surrey, defeated rankings leader Lewis Harris 2-0 in the final of the seventh leg at Jesters Snooker Club.
Callender, who is based at Jimmy White’s Sports Lounge in Woking, put together a run of 23 in the first frame and added a 21 in the second. Earlier, he recorded the day’s highest break of 49 in the round-robin group stages.
“It’s nice to get a win on the board,” he said. “It’s been a good day all round.
“I’d like to thank my mum (Zara) and my dad (Jim) for taking me to all these Cuestars events. And I’d like to thank Lewis for a great final.”
Callender was runner-up on his Bronze Tour debut in Chandler’s Ford last April and has qualified for six of the seven knockouts this season.
Harris remains top of the rankings, eight points ahead of beaten semi-finalist Jack Miller. Callender is 14 points further back in third place. Aariz Tariq, who went down 2-1 to Callender in the last-four, is joint fifth with Toby Phillips behind fourth-placed Harry Merwood.
