Asten claims Gold in Reading

ASTEN Sahota has collected his first winner’s trophy on the Cuestars Under-21 Gold Tour.

The 14-year-old from Southampton pocketed £150 in prize money after beating Harry Wyatt 3-2 in the final of the third leg at The Crucible Sports & Social Club, Reading.

Wyatt (Ferndown), who was also runner-up in Chandlers Ford last month, is the new rankings leader. Sahota is five points adrift in second place. Noah Gartell (Isle of Wight) is third.

Sahota won two Bronze tournaments and two Silver tournaments before earning promotion to the top tier at the start of the 2023/24 campaign. His previous best finish was runner-up in Bournemouth in April last year.

The England snooker and billiards international posted the day’s highest break of 92 in his 2-0 last-four victory over Ronnie Sullivan.

Wyatt, who received £50, defeated John Donovan 2-0 in the second semi and had actually beaten Sahota 2-1 in the round-robin group stages.

There were 17 runners. Results are now on snookerscores.net.

Jesters Snooker Club, Swindon, hosts the fourth leg on Sunday, December 7
