Michael Holt is guest professional for U21 finals day (subject to WST calendar)

IT WAS 27 years ago that a 16-year-old Michael Holt and his equally young playing partner demolished John Hunter and Graham Lee in the semi-finals of the national pairs championship.

But now Cuestars director John is set to be re-united with ‘The Hitman’.

Providing there is no clash when the World Snooker Tour calendar, which is usually announced in late April, Michael will be the guest professional at the Cuestars Under-21 Championships on June 12 at Jesters Snooker Club, Swindon.

This is especially exciting for us as Michael is a fan of the Cuestars Snooker Academy (as well as Nottingham Forest).

John said: “I could see from the way he played (27 years ago) he was likely to go on and become a top professional.

“It’s great to have his experience and top-level knowledge available to Cuestars Snooker Academy members.”

Michael won the 2020 Shoot Out and is currently ranked world number 39. The 43-year-old recently qualified as a World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association coach.

In a Zoom meeting, Michael told John he is finding coaching very enjoyable. He feels there is no right or wrong way to play snooker so is careful what tips he puts out on social media. From his own experience, he feels it is better to work with a player’s natural ability and not be too technical.

He has checked out the Cuestars Snooker Academy and thinks it’s a great way of testing yourself during solo practice.

Michael’s coaching base is Stadium Leisure, Nottingham. He charges £50 per hour for adults and £35 per hour for juniors.
