Bonney: British Open finalist

CUESTARS’ top woman snooker player Emma Bonney (left) lost in the final of the WLBSA British Open to the virtually unbeatable queen of the green baize Reanne Evans.

World number three Bonney, based at Copnor SC Portsmouth, levelled the match at 1-1 with what Evans described as a “brilliant pink”.
But it was not enough to halt the world number one\’s march towards a record 76th straight win on the WLBSA circuit.
Five-time world billiards champion Bonney, who had defeated Taunton’s Tina Owen-Sevilton 3-0 in the last-four, lost 3-1 to Evans at the Pot Black Sports Bar in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
Evans, now a professional, said: “It was a bit scrappy and all the balls went a bit awkward. I needed a snooker in the second frame, got it, and then she potted a brilliant pink.”
It was announced this week that, from January 1, WLBSA membership will be free. Tournament entry fees will be increased slightly to cover administration costs.
