11-year-old joins the ton-up club

A CENTURY break is something that all snooker players dream about but only a few accomplish.

So to join the ton-up club at the tender age of 11 is quite remarkable.

But that’s what Bristol lad Aidan Murphy (pictured) has done.

The talented youngster produced a total clearance of 118 against Jordan Partridge in a practice match at Brislington and St Annes Conservative club.

It came three days after he made a personal best 70 in a warm-up match with Nat Kidner, from Bournemouth, before the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Silver Tour championship play-off at Jesters Snooker Club, Swindon.

Proud dad Derek was delighted and revealed that the feat was nearly filmed.

He said: “He didn’t even call me to tell me, just a text saying ‘hit 118’. Typical Aidan. He takes it all in his stride.

“I was chuffed to bits when I arrived and all the locals were cheering and celebrating with high fives.

“One local started to film it on his mobile when Aidan was on the final brown for the ton. He couldn’t wait to show me when I arrived to pick Aidan up – but the silly s** pressed pause instead of record.”

Murphy reached the semi-finals of the Cuestars championship play-off after finishing joint third in the Silver Tour rankings.

He made his Cuestars debut in October, 2014, and won four of the seven Bronze Tour legs he entered that season to finish runner-up to champion Steven Hughes, from Chandler’s Ford.

Sponsored by Elite Mobility, Murphy is planning to compete on the EASB Regional Junior Tour South next season.
