44 for Dan the Man

COPNOR Snooker Club teenager Dan Compton fired in a personal best 44 break in a practice match against Rio Smith.

The 15-year-old (pictured) is “playing his best snooker by far”, according to his doubles partner.

Steve Toms, who has partnered Compton to the semi-finals of the Portsmouth league’s handicap pairs in the past two seasons, said: “I have enjoyed playing alongside Dan in the doubles where he is growing in experience with every year he plays.

“His form over the past year has vastly improved and he has shown in this year’s Portsmouth Summer League that he has the talent if he puts his mind to it.

“This year has proved that he is playing his best snooker by far.”

He added that Compton “played a big part in the success” of Copnor A winning Division 3 of last season’s Peter Rook League Cup before eventually losing to Copnor B in the semi-finals.

Compton made his Bronze Tour debut in December, 2010, and won two tournaments: in Salisbury in October, 2012, and in Swindon the following April. For the past two seasons he has been a Silver Tour player. He finished third in the 2014/15 Copnor Section rankings.
