Ashton wins frame of the week in South Wilts

STEVE Ashton clawed back a 50-point deficit to win a remarkable fifth-frame decider in the Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League.

The 56-year-old edged Stuart Dreyer 3-2 in a match that will live long in the memory, or at least in Ashton’s, at Salisbury Snooker Club.

Dreyer established a lead of 50 with the help of a 32 break.

Fourth-placed Ashton responded with a 22 and then took the last red with a yellow and all the colours to win on the black with a 30 clearance.

Meanwhile, league leader Jake Stewart strengthened his position by dispatching second-placed Liam Tinne 3-2.

David Rice knocked in a run of 38 in a 5-0 whitewash of bottom-of-the-table Eddie Mason.

And there were 3-2 victories for Paul Burt over Lee Stagg and Antony Foxcroft over Callum McDonald.
