Carroll: the joy of six

NEIL Carroll rode his luck to extend his unbeaten run in the Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League.

The 47-year-old from Rownhams, near Southampton, posted his sixth straight victory thanks to some unlucky ‘in-offs’ by his opponent Stuart Dreyer at Salisbury Snooker Club.
Although Carroll ran out a 4-1 winner, Dreyer (Salisbury) went ‘in-off’ in the second to allow the league leader “to nick the frame” and went ‘in-off’ the black in the fourth.
Meanwhile, Richard Arnold (Salisbury) climbed three places to second after a remarkable comeback from 2-0 down to Gary Hart (Porton).
At 2-1, Hart’s attempted clearance from three reds out ended on the green. And with the match tied, Arnold had the momentum and was the more robust in the decider.
A first win still eludes Nick Bevan (Salisbury), who said before the season started: “I thought it may improve my game by playing longer format snooker.”
Bevan, 50 on Saturday, suffered a fifth 3-2 defeat in six matches after an epic safety battle on the final yellow against Paul Burt (Britford).
Burt clinched his second win of the season on the pink.
