Dylan Smith claims first tournament win

A FIRST tournament success is a moment to treasure and a defining milestone in any snooker player’s career.

So hats off to Cuestars Under-21 Bronze Tour youngster Dylan Smith for collecting his first winner’s trophy.

The 11-year-old from Tunbridge Wells was crowned the Kent under-16 champion at Welling Snooker Club last Sunday.

Smith pocketed £20 prize money but, more importantly, landed the Summers Cup.

Based at Victoria Snooker Centre and runner-up last year, he won both his round-robin matches against 14-year-olds in the event run by the Kent County Billiards & Snooker Association.

Smith dispatched Nicky Trowell 2-0 before edging defending champion Jimmy Matthews 2-1 on the final pink.

After running away with the first frame, he lost the next by going in-off the black.

It came at the end of a busy weekend. The previous day, he won two matches and lost in the quarter-finals of the handicapped East Sussex Open Championship at the Castle Snooker & Sports Bar in Brighton.

Smith is currently third in the Bronze Tour rankings. He kicked off his debut season by reaching the final in four of the first five legs.
