Eight-year-old lands second holiday title

AN EIGHT-year-old from Eastleigh has won his second school holiday competition at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club.

O’Shay Scott landed the Ken Jones May Half-Term Cup after 20 hours of various snooker-based activities spread over five days.

Scott, who also won the February Half-Term Cup, led the rankings going into the last day – the 250th day of school holiday competitions with World Snooker coach Tim Dunkley.

Runner-up Harry Joyce (Eastleigh) needed to top the eight-man robin group and hope that his title rival finished bottom.

But Scott dispelled any lingering doubts by winning six of his seven frames – only losing to third-placed Riley Ellis (Wootton Bassett).

The champion recorded breaks of 24 and 22 during the week and then added a 30, three below his highest, in the Eastleigh & District Under-19 League.

Charlie Pringle’s 42 was the week’s highest. Four-year-old William Thomson equalled his personal best of nine.

Scott made his debut on the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Bronze Tour in Havant in February. He competed in five legs in the second half of the season and finished 11th in the rankings.

The next school holiday competition is the Rotary Summer Cup which runs from 11am-3pm on 28 weekdays from July 26 to September 1.

Final rankings: O’Shay Scott 56 pts, Harry Joyce 33, Riley Ellis 29, Oliver Sykes 27, Charlie Pringle 26, William Thomson 25, Connor Benzey 19, Oliver Humphries 11, Joe Hampson 8, Ryan Hughes 5, Steven Hughes 5, Lee Cooper 4.
