First ton for Anthony Rice

GOLD Tour player Anthony Rice said watching the black drop for his first century break was the “most exquisite feeling”.

Rice (pictured) made a 100 clearance in a practice session (which he lost 15-2) against Richard Swaffield at Salisbury Snooker Club.

With the cue-ball virtually level with the pink, the 17-year-old from Fordingbridge was forced to play off three cushions to land straight on the black but close to the side cushion.

“It was the most exquisite feeling watching the black disappear and the terrifying nerves turning into immediate delight,” he said.

“I’m delighted with my first ton and my next goal is to make one in a competitive match.”

Rice revealed he set himself the target of hitting three figures before he turned 18. His birthday is in six weeks.

In the same session, Swaffield – who plays alongside Rice in the Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League – made a 97, his best ever attempt at a maximum.

“It was poetry in motion, a class break and a shame it came to an end,” said Rice.
