Mickey chases record

A REMARKABLY talented 11-year-old from Basingstoke has his sights set on breaking an Eastleigh & District Under-19 League record that has stood for more than a decade.

Mickey Joyce (pictured) has claimed his third Premier title at Chandler’s Ford Snooker Club by extending his lead over Connor Benzey to 16 points with three weeks left.

Gareth Crook and Alex Dunkley were each crowned champion five times.

“I want to try to win six,” declared Joyce.

But regional and national events over the coming years may make the youngster reevaluate his priorities.

Joyce has a high break of 73 in competition and is sponsored by Surrey-based Falcon Pools and The Academy, Basingstoke.

He competes on the EASB Regional Junior Tour South (for under-20s), reached the last-16 of this season’s English Under-14 Championship and is joint tenth on the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Gold Tour.

And he beats adults in the Basingstoke & District Snooker League where he is second in the Division 1 player rankings.
