New boy Dylan Smith makes his mark in Kent

A NEW Cuestars Bronze Tour player who has yet to make his debut has won a trophy in a junior event in his home county.

Dylan Smith (pictured, right) finished runner-up in the Summers Cup, an under-16 tournament at Welling Snooker Club for players living in Kent.

The ten-year-old even beat the defending champion in his final round-robin match in the event run by the Kent County Billiards & Snooker Association.

Smith, who is based at the Victoria Snooker Centre in his home town of Tunbridge Wells, overcame George Knowles, 13, 2-0 in his first match in the four-man group.

He then lost 2-1 to Jimmy Matthews (left), 13, the eventual champion, before beating title holder Brandon Nguyen, 13, 2-0.

Smith is coached by Leo Fernandez. He first came to our attention when he entered the southern qualifier for the English Under-14 Championship at Frames Sports Bar, Coulsdon, in January.
