Silver Tour players contest 2013 Triton Trophy final

TWO Cuestars Silver Tour players fought out the Winchester City & District Snooker League’s (WCDSL) annual under-18 tournament.

Champion Olly Clark (pictured left with runner-up Austen Petty on the right) said it’s an “honour” to have his name on the 40-year-old Triton Trophy. The 14-year-old from Gosport defeated Petty 2-1 in the final at Chandler’s Ford Snooker Club.

Petty (Boyatt Wood) took the first frame on the pink but conceded on the colours in the second. A 21 break swung the decider in Clark’s favour and, following 14-year-old Petty’s under-hit safety shot, he stroked the title-winning blue into the middle. “It was tough all the way through,” admitted Clark. “The final was very cagey. It was a really tough game and I had to come from behind. I just held on to it at the end. “(The 21 break) put me quite a way in front. I knew it was going to be tough for Austen to get back.” And he added: “It’s an honour to be among the names (on the trophy).”

The Triton Trophy, first played for in 1974, is for under-18 members of clubs that compete in the WCDSL.

This year’s event attracted a 16-strong field.

Charlie Gray, 16, from Shirley, beat ten-year-old Billy Naismith (Woolston) to retain the Plate trophy.

A run of 28 earned Clark the high-break trophy. Hamble’s Sam Warren collected the best newcomer award for reaching the semi-finals on his competition debut.
