Top spot for Ashton

STEVE Ashton starts 2013 top of the Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League after a “one-sided” match against Richard Arnold at Salisbury Snooker Club.

Ashton, who has now won all three of this season’s games 4-1, has opened up a three-point gap over Paul Burt.
“It was a one-sided affair that Steve dominated with steady match-play snooker,” said Arnold, who described his own performance as “anything but pretty spasmodic” but salvaged a point with a run of 40 in the final frame.
Meanwhile, Alex Thorn defeated Bishopdown teenager Callum McDonald 5-0.
“I was playing and potting well, and it was nice to have an open game,” said the 38-year-old from Shrewton, who added that his 13-year-old opponent was a “nice lad” with a “good attitude”.
And Burt (Britford) wrapped up a 3-2 victory over Nick Bevan (Salisbury) with a 31 break.
