Trophy day for Salisbury juniors

IT WAS trophy day for the excited young potters from the thriving junior section at Salisbury Snooker Club.

Eight-year-old Thomas McEvoy, who travels from Warminster every Saturday morning, was crowned Winter League champion. Runner-up was 13-year-old Eddie Mason.

Will Kempson, nine, won the Fast Snooker tournament, a game using just the six colours and one red ball which is worth ten points. James Rogers was runner-up and George Anderson claimed the Plate award.

World Snooker community coach John Hunter, one of the organisers, said McEvoy has continued to improve and has already passed the third level of the Cuestars Coaching Programme.

And it was just like old times when Kempson joined the club. His dad, Andy, was a member of the junior section more than 20 years ago.

Talking about the youngster, Hunter said: “Will has a real passion for snooker.

“As well as getting to the club with his dad as much as he can, he watches snooker on TV and YouTube to improve his skills.”

Junior sessions are held every Saturday from 10.30am-12.30pm and cost just £2. They are overseen by Hunter and run by Mike Cannings with coaching support from Antony Foxcroft.

A total of 21 boys and one girl – nine-year-old Katie Stacey – are now registered.
