Tuesday League success for Seniors new boy

NEW Seniors Tour player Dan Hammond (pictured) cruised past eight-time champion Mitch Wade to retain his Tuesday Singles League play-off title at Chandler’s Ford Snooker Club.

The 40-year-old website designer from Winchester admitted he had “a couple of lucky rolls” against his under-par opponent in the 2-0 final victory.

Hammond said: “It’s nice to beat Mitch. But I’d like to now try to beat Mitch when he’s playing like he normally does.”

And he added: “I’ve been working on some areas of my game. Dave Mumford’s helped me with a couple of things that I’m trying to get right now. Maybe it’s starting to pay off.”

Hammond finished top of the ten-week scratch league and was number-one seed going into the Series 13 knockout. He overcame Steve Boterhoek (West End) 2-0 and 2015/16 Roll-Up champion Carlo Cavagnetto (Chandler’s Ford) 2-1 to reach his third successive final.

Runner-up to Ram Birring (Bassett) in Series 11, he beat Neil Carroll (Rownhams) in the final of the last series. Last month, he reached the quarter-finals on his debut on the Cuestars South of England Seniors (40+) Tour in Fareham.

Quarter-finals: Dan Hammond 2-0 Steve Boterhoek, John Barton 1-2 Carlo Cavagnetto, Mitch Wade (38, 38) 2-0 Nathan Page (sub for Dave Nunn), Neil Carroll 2-0 Marc Russell.

Semi-finals: Wade (30) 2-0 Carroll, Hammond 2-1 Cavagnetto.

Final: Hammond 2-0 Wade.
