Burrell leads Masters Tour

MARK Burrell leads the Cuestars Masters Tour rankings after winning his first tournament on the midweek snooker circuit for players aged 55 and over.

The Swindon-based cueist pocketed £90 in prize money following a 2-0 victory over newcomer Chris Taylor in the final of the second leg at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club.

Burrell made his debut in January, 2023, and his only previous final was in Salisbury in February this year.

Cuestars director John Hunter said: “I’m really pleased for Mark. His results have steadily improved on the Masters Tour.”

Taylor, 58, an accomplished billiards player, hails from Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire – more than 200 miles away from Chandler’s Ford.

Semi-finalist Andrew Darken moves up to joint third place with Brian Sharpe.

Defending champion Hunter lost 2-1 to Taylor in the last-four but earlier recorded the day’s highest break of 83.

Salisbury Snooker Club hosts the third leg of eight on Wednesday, November 11.

Prize money: winner Mark Burrell £90, runner-up Chris Taylor £50, semi-finalists John Hunter & Andrew Darken £25 each.
