Miles better after 3-0 defeats

FAWLEY accountant and renowned weight-lifter Nick Miles was more pleased with his two 3-0 defeats than his other results in the first leg of the English Masters Snooker Tour.

The 61-year-old (pictured left), a regular on the Cuestars South of England Seniors Tour, opened with a 2-1 victory over Danny Connolly (Macclesfield) at Grantham Snooker & Pool Club, Lincolnshire.

After a 2-1 defeat by Andy Soper (Maidstone), Miles went down 3-0 to Wayne Brown (Merseyside) and Jamie Bodle (Derby).

“I was best pleased with the last two results, funnily enough,” he said.

“Both players had had several high breaks up until playing me. But neither achieved more than a 29 (against me) and my safety play caused enough problems for them to make mistakes, which I couldn’t capitalise on fully.

“All round, it was a good day though.”

Miles was the World Drug Free Powerlifting Federation world masters champion in the 90kg class in the 50-54 year age group in 2002.
