Swindon win takes Mears to third spot

ALDERSHOT hotshot Ryan Mears whitewashed England international Ryan Causton to claim the fourth leg of the EASB Amateur Snooker Tour.

Mears swept past the Londoner 3-0 in the southern final at the 147 Snooker Club, Swindon.
The 23-year-old, who is based at the Sovereign Snooker Club, Farnborough, said good safety play was the telling factor in his win.
In the first round, Daniel Ward (West Midlands) had a 73 in the first frame but Mears replied with runs of 60 and 65 to win 3-1.
He then accounted for James Hill (Wolverhampton) 3-0 and progressed to the final thanks to a bye as some players chose not to travel.
Alex Dunkley and Billy Castle decided not to make the trip. And the gamble paid off. The Cue T’s Snooker Lounge pair remained first and second respectively and join Mears in the last-16 play-off on May 19 where the top eight from the North and South come together.
