Wallace claims Seniors Championship
MARTIN Wallace’s 15-year wait for a first title on the Cuestars snooker circuit has ended.
The 58-year-old from Wokingham pocketed £250 in prize money for winning the invitational Seniors Championship at The Crucible Sports & Social Club, Newbury.
Wallace clearly enjoys playing Dorset-based players as he defeated Alex Greenham and Garry Coulson in the group stages, Paul Davis and Carl Davies in the knockout and Sean Reeves 3-1 in the final.
The left-hander, who has been a regular on this over-40’s circuit since it was launched late in 2010, played well all day combining his always solid safety play with some excellent long potting when under pressure.
Lun Lee took the high-break honours with an 87 in his group-stage match with Neil Carroll.
Lee and Carroll were drawn with Ian Rose and rankings winner Davis in the ‘group of death’.
Dennis Tristram missed out by one frame from qualifying for the knockout despite winning two of his three matches.
Tournament director Chris Wyatt said: “Thanks to all of the players for a great season. I look forward to it all starting again in September.
“And thank you to the Crucible Newbury for being an excellent host as always.”
