First frame for Callum

BISHOPTOWN teenager Callum McDonald (pictured) was “delighted” to win his first frame after seven successive 5-0 defeats in the Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League.

The never-say-die 14-year-old broke his duck against Neil Carroll (Southampton) at Salisbury Snooker Club.
He was always in control after slamming in a long red from Carroll’s break off in the first frame and making 20.
“I was quite nervous as I’ve never heard of or seen my opponent,” said McDonald, who lost the next four frames.
“I was delighted about winning my first frame in the South Wilts League as it has been a tough season so far, losing all my matches 5-0. But I’ve kept my head up and pushed hard to win a frame.
“The next step will be two frames. Then win a match as I gain more experience playing opponents who have been playing many more years than me.”
Carroll said: “He potted really well and built up a lead from which I could not recover.”
Meanwhile, two broken wrists have sidelined Alex Thorn for the remainder of the season.
The 38-year-old from Shrewton suffered the injuries on the first full day of a snowboarding holiday in Les Arcs, in the French Alps.
Defending champion John Hunter (Andover) has taken top spot from Gary Hart (Porton) after a 5-0 win over Paul Burt (Britford).
Martin Hill (Durrington) climbed to third after two 4-1 wins. He compiled a 46 break in the fifth frame against Richard Arnold (Salisbury) – but only won the frame on the black. And he added a 32 against Steve Ashton (Salisbury).

Results: Richard Arnold P Gary Hart P, Richard Arnold 1 Martin Hill 4, Martin Hill 4 Steve Ashton 1, Paul Burt 0 John Hunter 5, Nick Bevan P Alex Thorn P, Neil Carroll 4 Callum McDonald 1,
Highest break: Richard Arnold 64.
