League leader prevails in 60-minute frame

AN HOUR-LONG frame proved to be the springboard for a hard-earned victory that kept Adam Guyatt top of the Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League.

The 23-year-old later posted breaks of 54 and 33 in his 4-1 victory over Richard Arnold at Salisbury Snooker Club.

Arnold, who felt he deserved more from the match, not surprisingly described the first frame – which his opponent nicked on the black (“blast”) – as a “very tactical affair”.

Meanwhile, Fordingbridge teenager Kaine Petty (pictured) has recorded his first victory in his debut season.

The 15-year-old beat Ally Pollard (Alderholt, near Fordingbridge) 4-1.

Gracious in defeat, Pollard, 17, said: “I am glad for Kaine to win a match as he was so unlucky against some of the best guys in the league.”

And Steve Ashton suffered his first loss of the season as defending champion John Hunter (Andover) ran out a 4-1 winner in a high-scoring encounter.

Hunter wrapped up the first frame with a 39 clearance and took a 3-1 lead with runs of 63 and 56.

Ashton made a 30 from a fluked red in the fifth but lost it on the brown.

Results: Steve Ashton 1 John Hunter 4, Richard Arnold 1 Adam Guyatt 4, Kaine Petty 4 Ally Pollard 1, Martin Hill P James Bolton P.
