McDonald signs off with new high break

BRONZE Tour teenager Callum McDonald wrapped up his debut season in the Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League with his highest competitive break.

The 15-year-old from Bishopdown (pictured left) compiled a 30, a massive milestone in any player’s snooker career, in a 3-2 victory over Kaine Petty (Fordingbridge) in the last match of the season at Salisbury Snooker Club.

In a rearranged game, seventh-placed Richard Arnold (Salisbury) lost 3-2 to 19-year-old James Bolton (Amesbury), the league’s inaugural under-21 champion, who ended the season in fifth.

Arnold said: “I somehow managed to squander the decider from 35 up with 35 to play.”

As previously reported, John Hunter (Andover) secured his fifth successive title and an eighth in total with nine straight victories in the league’s tenth season. And he recorded the highest break of 97.

Runner-up Adam Guyatt (Salisbury), with one defeat, was just four points behind. Steve Ashton (Salisbury) was third.

McDonald ended the Bronze Tour campaign in fourth, two points ahead of Petty. Ally Pollard (Alderholt, near Fordingbridge) finished in joint seventh.
