Table fitter to sponsor Championship Tour event

A FAREHAM snooker player whose expertise is more suited to tables with no cloth on them is sponsoring a tournament in Havant next season.

Portsmouth league stalwart and renowned table fitter Trevor Sanders has agreed to boost the prize money for a leg of the Cuestars South of England Championship Tour at Top Spot Snooker Club.Sanders – who turns out for Division 1 outfit Al’s Bar & Snooker Club, Portchester – has played (“not very well”) in the league for more than 40 years. And he has been repairing and re-clothing snooker tables for more than 30 years “Working on snooker tables is not just a job,” he explained. “It is a passion which I very much enjoy doing.“Snooker has been a big part of my life from a very young age as my father, who is 91, has one of the largest collections of snooker and billiards books.”

The overall rankings winner of the Cuestars Championship Tour, which consists of eight tournaments around central southern England, earns a Q School place and a chance to gain a two-year tour card for the professional circuit.
