Dylan Beer wins first Cuestars tournament

HE’S the first player based at Salisbury Snooker Club to win a tournament on the Cuestars Under-21 circuit for more than five years.

Dylan Beer beat last month’s runner-up William Hurley (Rayleigh) 2-1 in the final of the second leg of the Silver Tour at Frames Sports Bar, Coulsdon.

The 12-year-old from Fair Oak, near Eastleigh, took the opening frame but was forced to dig deep as his opponent broke the back of the second with a run of 39.

Beer, who described the day as “amazing”, said: “I battled hard against William. He played well.”

Talking about the decider, he added: “I had to keep it tight so he couldn’t score and chipped away when I got a chance.”

Earlier, Beer won all three round-robin matches and then defeated Casey Turner (Haywards Heath) 2-0 and Isaac Wong (Southampton) 2-0 to reach his first Silver final.

Hurley prevailed 2-0 against leg-one winner Mason Wilson (Basingstoke) in his last-four match.

Beer, whose highest break in competition is 66, made his Bronze Tour debut in July, 2021, and was promoted to Silver at the beginning of last season. He was runner-up twice in Bronze but had never before been past the semi-finals in Silver.

The England international thanked his sponsors Direct Cleaning, Protyre, Dolly Rockers and BCL.

Ally Pollard, then aged 21, was the last player from Salisbury SC to taste success on the Cuestars junior circuit. He broke his duck in his 50th and penultimate junior tournament on a magic day in Swindon in April, 2018.

Chandlers Ford Snooker Club hosts the third leg of ten on Sunday, November 5.
