First Silver trophy for Wyatt

HARRY Wyatt earned the praise of his mentor after claiming a first winner’s trophy on the Cuestars Under-21 Silver Snooker Tour in south London.

The 12-year-old from Ferndown (pictured) described the momentous day as “not bad”.

Wyatt, a former Bronze rankings champion, beat Samuel Laxton 2-0 in the final of the second leg at Frames Sports Bar, Coulsdon.

He wrapped up the second frame with a cocked-hat double on the pink and a cross-double shot-to-nothing on the black.

Talking about his 17-year-old opponent from Portsmouth, Wyatt said: “He’s a very good player, very solid. I did well to beat him.”

It followed a high-quality 2-1 semi-final victory over ten-year-old rankings leader Asten Sahota (Southampton).

In the first frame, Wyatt opened with a run of 31, Sahota responded with the day’s highest break of 44 but his opponent cleared the colours to the pink to win.

“It was a very good game,” Wyatt admitted

Bradley Cowdroy, who won the Gold final, is mentoring Wyatt. He said: “I’m so proud of him. I’m almost happier that he won than I did because I know the hard work he puts in. He’s a fantastic talent.”

Wyatt, who is sponsored by Ferndown companies PowerNaturally and A1 Rubbish Clearance, moved up to second place in the rankings. Laxton dropped to third and Mason Wilson (Basingstoke) is fourth.

The event was sponsored by Frames Sports Bar. Chandlers Ford Snooker Club hosts the third leg of ten on Sunday, November 6.
