Gola wins Bronze rankings title

ISLINGTON teenage Donnie Gola has won his first regional snooker title despite missing part of the season because of a broken thumb.

The 15-year-old finished top of the Cuestars Under-21 Bronze Tour rankings following the ten-leg campaign.

Gola, who made his debut on the junior circuit in August, 2021, is based at The Mildmay Club in Newington Green and coached by John Woods.

He collected winner’s trophies in Coulsdon, Fareham and Bournemouth this season but missed the trip to Chandler’s Ford last November because of a broken thumb sustained while playing football at school.

But that minor setback seemed to spur Gola on.

“I’ve been practising a lot more and it has really helped,” he said.

And talking about the title, he added: “It feels really good because it’s my first full season.”

Gola finished 13 points clear of Christopher Woodward (Chandler’s Ford). William Hurley (Rayleigh) is third.
