Trowbridge A triumph at Chandler’s Ford

TROWBRIDGE A have overtaken their fierce snooker rivals from Swindon in the race for the Cuestars Section Team Challenge.

A 6-0 whitewash of Eastleigh B in the final of event six at Chandler’s Ford SC and an even sweeter 5-1 semi-final victory over Jesters A, from Swindon, has given Trowbridge a slim five-point lead.

Andrew Mayell posted a 52 break in the final.

It was Trowbridge’s fourth final of the season. They had lost the previous three.

In previous meetings this season, Trowbridge beat Jesters in the semi-finals in Winchester, in October, but lost in the quarter-finals at Basingstoke, in January, and the semi-finals at Swindon, in December. And, following a couple of team changes, Trowbridge again lost to Jesters in last month’s final in Swindon.

However, captain Daniel Tallentire kept faith with the new look side of Jake White, Daniel Winfield and Andrew Mayell for the trip south to Chandler’s Ford.

A delighted Steve White, snooker dad/coach/junior organiser/driver, said: “The boys struggled all day with their doubles but kept winning their singles matches.

“They were all on a high after knocking out the rankings leaders. A win and runners-up at the last two events should boost confidence for the final two rounds.”

Just seven points separate the top three. The tour visits The Academy, home of third-placed Eastleigh A, on April 26, and then, on May 31, Player’s in Westbury, Trowbridge’s new home since the town’s snooker club shut.

Swindon Jesters C defeated Reading A 6-0 in the Plate final. Reading’s Dean Matthews earlier posted a 36 break.
