Shane Castle wins European U18 Open Championship

SHANE Castle failed to turn up for his first match in the 2014 European U18 Open Championship but recovered to win the title.

The 16-year-old from Marchwood regained the MIUS Cup that he first won in 2012 after a 4-2 victory over Haydon Pinhey (Plymouth) in the final.

Castle compiled ten breaks of more than 50 with a high of 99 during the three-day event at the South West Snooker Academy, Gloucester.

Three other past or present Cuestars members rose to the challenge of competing in this international tournament alongside players from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Malta, Belgium and Hong Kong.

Thomas Lancastle (Bristol) qualified in second place from his round-robin group but went down 3-2 to Ryan Rowlands (Wales) in the last-32.

Gloucester pair Lewis Parnham and Aaron Cook were group-stage casualties.
