Copnor Cuestars comeback clinches cup

COPNOR Cuestars staged a remarkable comeback to claim the Peter Rook League Cup.

The six-man team, which included four players aged under 18, edged Craneswater A 7-6 on a tiebreak frame from 5-1 down.

It capped a great season for the young side that had already won promotion after finishing runners-up in the Portsmouth District Billiards & Snooker Association’s Division 3.

But things did not start well in the final of the handicapped competition at Craneswater Snooker Club.

Pascal Richard, conceding a ten-point start, lost to Rob Kirby. English Under-18 Champion Mark Lloyd, 17, conceding 40, drew with Mick Kirby. And women’s world number 42 Chloe White, 15, receiving 55, lost narrowly to Town Champion Mike Talmondt.

However, Steve Forster, receiving 45, beat Pedro Ferguson. Will Forster, 11, receiving 65, drew with Andy Boulton. And 17-year-old Callum White, receiving 15, played a blinder to overcome Colin Rowe to take the match into a deciding frame.

England international Lloyd was selected to take on ex-professional Talmondt in the tiebreak. Talmondt, nursing a slim lead, missed a red and Lloyd helped himself to a break of 30 that left his opponent chasing snookers.
