Hunter secures whitewash – just like that!

SALISBURY’S Richard Arnold reckons the Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League leader is “an honorary life member of The Magic Circle”.

The 49-year-old was lucky to get nil in a 5-0 thrashing by Andover cueman John Hunter at Salisbury Snooker Club.
“I must say I had an amazing run of the balls,” admitted Hunter, who secured the fifth frame with an outrageous fluke on the final black.
“I intended to double the black off one cushion into a middle pocket but ended up potting it from the jaws of the opposite middle pocket into the green pocket.”
Despite the whitewash, Arnold said he enjoyed his lesson in the “snooker school of masochism”.
Meanwhile, Steve Ashton (Salisbury) also waved his magic wand to wrap up a 3-2 victory over Neil Carroll (Southampton).
Carroll laid the required snooker on the pink in the decider only for Ashton to escape and pot the match-winning ball.
Gary Hart (Porton) remained in third place after accounting for Stuart Dreyer (Salisbury) 4-1.
“Stuart was not up to his usual standard,” he said. “Which meant that I managed to stay just enough ahead in four of the frames.”
Hart added he “started to fear the worst” in the third frame when Dreyer extracted penalty points from two of the five snookers required.
And Alex Thorn (Shrewton) defeated Trevor Pittman (Salisbury) 3-2 from 1-0 down.
“Largely speaking, it was a bit of a battle,” he said.
Results: Alex Thorn 3 Trevor Pittman 2, Gary Hart 4 Stuart Dreyer 1, Neil Carroll 2 Steve Ashton 3, Richard Arnold 0 John Hunter 5.
Highest break: John Hunter 94.
