Mother Nature likes a trier

PORTSMOUTH snooker professional Jason Weston reckons “Mother Nature likes a trier” – and he should know.

Weston (pictured) returned to the Main Tour via Q School in 2015 after a 12-year absence caused by a debilitating illness. And the 45-year-old is now backing the next generation of young potters. TOPSPOT snooker club in Havant, which is owned and run by his parents Sandra and Harry, will sponsor a leg of the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Gold, Silver and Bronze Tours next season.

The club is renowned for its home-cooked food and friendly, down-to-earth attitude which the locals have always appreciated. Weston said: “TOPSPOT is a real testament to mum and dad’s commitment to look after all their customers with the same passion lasting 27 years and counting.”It boasts ten well-spaced snooker tables – including a professional standard Star table on which Weston will play national treasure Jimmy White in a best-of-19 frame match starting at noon on Friday, August 12 – four pool tables, one American pool table and a dart board.

TOPSPOT can be found on Facebook under Topspot Sports BAR.

Weston was forced to retire from the pro-circuit in 2003 due to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME) but is enjoying his second lease of life. He said: “As you can imagine – being out of the game for over 12 years, not picking my cue up – I’ve realised it’s changed considerably to when I was on tour starting back in 1991. “I’m enjoying the challenge this has set me. I never ever thought I would play snooker again, especially at world level. “But life is so fantastic you just never know what’s around the corner. I’m enjoying my snooker immensely. “I’ve learnt to try to manage my illness but I’m also sure it’s getting better every day. At its worst, I couldn’t get through the day without passing out for a few hours – but now that has stopped.“I believe whatever you want to do in life you just have to keep trying.
