Oliver retains Sightsavers Spectacle title

CUESTARS Gold Tour player Oliver Sykes has won tickets to the Welsh Open for the second year running.

The 14-year-old beat his brother, Dan, 2-1 in the final of the Sightsavers Spectacle at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club.

Dan took the first frame on the black. Oliver squared the match with a break of 55 and cleared up in the decider following a decidedly unlucky in-off on a pink.

(Straight after the final, 21-year-old Dan played Steve Boterhoek in his first match of the Roll-Up – and recorded his first competitive century of 105.)

Riccardo Drayton beat Paul Naismith in the Plate final. Earlier, Paul recorded the day’s highest break of 78 in his semi-final victory over tournament promoter David Stewart.

A record 20 entries for the third running of the annual charity tournament raised £347 for Sightsavers. And that makes a grand total of £787.18 raised by the club this year.
