Joy of six for Karl Townsend

IT WAS another impressive win for Karl Townsend on another record-breaking day for the Cuestars Masters Tour.

The Northolt cueman has now won six of the seven events he has entered on the Snooker Hub-sponsored midweek circuit for players aged 55 and over.

Townsend’s latest success was a 2-0 victory over John Hunter (Andover) in the final of the seventh leg at Woking Snooker Centre.

It means Hunter secured his fourth successive rankings title two days before his 58th

Earlier, Ashley Beal put together the highest break in the eight-year history of the Masters Tour.

The Cuestars debutant from Maresfield, East Sussex, made a 114 against Paul Burt (Salisbury) in the round-robin group stages of the event sponsored by Terry Teeman from

Beal is a high-quality addition to the competition. He won the 2021 English Over-55s Championship and was crowned Southampton’s Town Champion in 1985 while studying at the city’s university.

Chandlers Ford Snooker Club hosts the eighth leg of nine on Wednesday, April 17.
