Debut win for Matt Ford

BERKSHIRE break-builder Matt Ford (pictured) made a storming debut on the English Masters (40+) Snooker Tour South.

The Ladbroke’s sports trader, who has just turned 40, won the first leg of six at the Castle Snooker Club, Brighton.

Ford, from Martins Heron, Bracknell, dropped just two out of 19 frames all day and beat Aidan Owens (Suffolk) 3-0 in the final.

“The standard of play was high, which made the win even more satisfying,” he said.

“I played fairly solid. My safety game was excellent for once which won me quite a few tight frames.

“The Castle Club is a very nice club with decent tables. It was nice to have the quarter-finals through to the final refereed and the event was very professionally run. It was an enjoyable day.”

Ford won the 2014/15 Cuestars South of England Championship Tour and is tipped to be a title contender on the Cuestars Seniors (40+) Tour this coming season.

Fawley accountant Nick Miles was knocked out in the group stages of the event that attracted a 17-strong field.
