Bournemouth victory takes Tanner up to fifth

VICTORY in Bournemouth took Eastleigh teenager Ben Tanner up to fifth place on the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Gold Tour.

The 18-year-old (pictured below) defeated Daniel Woods 3-0 in the final of the fourth leg at the Greenbaize Snooker Club.

Woods, 20, who actually beat Tanner in the group stages, now leads the rankings at the halfway point of the season.

In the semi-finals, Tanner saw off Group A winner James Facey (Cardiff) 3-0 while Woods accounted for second-placed Lee Bell (The Academy, Eastleigh) by the same score.

There was no happy New Year for Welsh raider Chris Richards, who started the day second in the rankings.

Richards finished fifth in Group A and dropped one place to third.

Bournemouth lad Rikki Moore made an impressive debut on the tour. He beat Eastleigh’s Liam Burnet in the group stages and took a frame off Danny Tallentire.

The fifth leg of the eight-tournament series is at Chandler’s Ford SC, on February 6.

Despite entering just two of the competitions so far this season, the 16-year-old is third in the rankings.

After edging Swindon’s Jodie Symes 2-1 in the last-four, he accounted for rankings leader Daniel Winfield (Player’s, Westbury) 2-0 in the final. It was Winfield’s second successive defeat in a final.

Group A winner Ryan Gavin (Liberal Club, High Wycombe) was knocked out 2-0 by Eastleigh’s Bradley Hatch in the quarter-finals. And Group D winner Gary Wilkins (Player’s, Westbury) lost at the same stage by the same score to Symes.
