Hurley back in contention

WILLIAM Hurley is back in contention for the Cuestars Under-21 Bronze Tour snooker title.

The 12-year-old from Rayleigh, Essex, moved up to joint third place in the rankings after collecting his second winner’s trophy of the season.

Hurley missed the trip to Havant early in January because he was in New Zealand and three weeks later lost in the last-16 in south London.

But he was back with a bang in the seventh leg at Woking Snooker Centre.

Speaking after a 2-0 victory over University of Southampton student Isaac Wong in the final, Hurley revealed that he had been putting in the hours at The Lanes Sports Bar in his home town

He said: “I’ve been practising a lot.

“I’m really pleased to win a second event. I played well.”

Hurley recorded nine 20-plus breaks, including four of 30 or more, in his 12 frames throughout the day.

Group-stage casualty Lennon Savage (Southampton) remains top of the rankings.

Second-placed Christopher Woodward (Chandler’s Ford) made up ground on his clubmate by reaching the last-four in the event sponsored by Tan Jeraj.

Donnie Gola (Islington) is joint third. Leg-six winner Adam Abbas (Brighton), who lost to Hurley in the semi-finals, is fifth.

Fareham Snooker Club hosts the eighth leg of ten on Sunday, March 12.
