Wyatt: “Life is good”

HARRY Wyatt has good reason to declare that “life is good” at the moment.

The 13-year-old from Ferndown made his maiden century of 103 in the Joe Perry Under-21 Super Series in Newbury.

Nine days later he won the seventh leg of the Cuestars Under-21 Silver Tour at Woking Snooker Centre.

And next month he flies out to Malta for his debut in the European Under-16 Championship.

Wyatt, who agreed that hitting three figures “boosted me a little bit”, didn’t drop a single frame all day in Woking and defeated ten-year-old William Thomson (Chandler’s Ford) 2-0 in the final.

“I started the day off a little bit shaky,” he said. “But I picked it up as the day went along and ended up playing all right at the end.”

Turning to the knockout, he added: “I had Samuel (Laxton), a very good match-player. Asten (Sahota), who’s really good. And William, another great player. So I had to work quite hard.”

Did the teenager sit on his laurels during the half-term holiday between his two successes? Hardly. He fitted in three practice matches plus a wodge of solo practice time.

Laxton remains top of the rankings but the 18-year-old from Portsmouth had his lead cut to two points after losing 2-0 to Wyatt in the last-eight. Sahota (Southampton) is second.

Caden Read (Chandler’s Ford) qualified for the knockout for the first time since earning promotion from Bronze at the end of last season.

Fareham Snooker Club hosts the eighth leg of ten on Sunday, March 12.
