Kaylan wins £900 frame

KAYLAN Patel earned himself £900 for winning the deciding frame of a snooker tournament in Newbury.

The 17-year-old from Leicester beat fellow England international O’Shay Scott 3-2 in the final of the third and last leg of the Cuestars Joe Perry Under-21 Super Series.

It meant the English Under-21 Champion pocketed £500 in prize money plus £600 towards a Q School entry.

Scott, who collected £200, made two centuries in the round-robin group stage of the event sponsored by Pitman Training at The Crucible Sports & Social Club.

Patel made his Cuestars debut in January, 2024, and finished third in last year’s Super Series.

He said: “I really enjoy coming to these events. I’m pleased to have won it this time round.

“The competition is always tough, especially when you play your friends along the way.

“I was happy about coming through three matches where I won the deciding frame.

“Now I’m looking forward to Q School.”

The high-quality field returned 31 breaks of more than 50. Westley Cooper made the day’s third century.

Oliver Sykes won the rankings but as he earned a two-year professional tour card for reaching the final of the European Championship in Spain, runner-up Patel is awarded the Q School contribution that is donated by Cuestars Ambassador Joe Perry.
